Clay Houston Hart was born on February 1, 2005. He weighed 6lbs 14oz and was 20 inches long. He has been the sunshine of our lives. We never imagined we could love something so much. He progressed normally until October 2005 when Brad and I noticed a "bruise" on his sholder blade. We thought nothing of it since Clay is a climber!
We became concerned when it stayed for 4 weeks - longer than a normal bruise. We took him to the pediatrician and she ran labs and concluded that it was normal, possibly a hemangioma. The following weekend we noticed a swollen lymphnode under the same arm and were alarmed. We called the pediatrician at home and took him in first thing the next morning. He was referred to the St Judes affiliate in Johnson City TN where more labs were completed. Clay was then diagnosed with leukemia. It was not until Tuesday when we arrived in Memphis that he was diagnosed with (ALL) Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia.
ALL is the most common type of childhood cancer. It boasts an 80% cure rate for children aged 1-12. The prognosis is worse for infants. Clay is 9 and 1/2 moths old now and is undergoing 12 weeks of intensive chemo therapy and 2-3 years of extended treatment.
Remember to take a moment every single day to whisper a prayer for our angel. We are believing God for a 100% cure and a testimony to sweep the nation!
